EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

I have over 30 years experience as a counsellor and started up one of the first counselling services for students in Universities in the UK.  I work flexibly in the way that best suits the client's needs. This means we may look for 'quick wins' to enable you to cope better and, at the other end of the scale, dig deep for root causes.

I don't insist on weekly or fortnightly sessions but rather structure in a way to best allow change and growth.

I am a 'generalist' working with individuals, couples, young people and families. I also work with a wide range of issues and consider myself particularly to benefit those with issues around communication/relationships, anxiety, and anger.

My training as a life coach allows me to help clients work towards a genuine acceptance of parts of themselves they have previously considered negative and transform these aspects so they feel more useful attributes.

There are a few things about my practice that may differ slightly from some other counsellors. Firstly, I share notes with my clients. Secondly, you should expect to be challenged (in a caring way). Thirdly, I work best with clients who like to work on themselves between sessions - usually based on agreed tasks, discussed at the end of sessions. Fourthly, I use a client sheet which will grow as time progresses as more TOOLS and notes are added. The client sheet becomes a 'TOOL FOR LIFE'

Fifthly, I use humour extensively!

The first session is where we assess each other. Can we work together productively? The main output from the assessment is to enable us both to make this decision. If, for any reason we cannot work together, then I will endeavour to find a suitable counsellor / counselling style for you. The first session is the only session where I would use a laptop. This is to capture / talk about baseline information including your "Basic Details and Personality Profile."
